Trump and Pence traveled to Texas on Wednesday to check on the relief efforts for those affected by Hurricane Harvey. They will also travel to Rockport Texas to meet a family who lost their home in the hurricane.
But before leaving Corpus Christi, the first lady and the second lady stopped at Whataburger's flagship location for some lunch. The father, a carpenter, intends to rebuild the family home himself, adds the source.
Mrs. Pence echoed the First Lady's sentiments, stating before their trip, "I am looking forward to the opportunity to accompany the First Lady in Texas and to visit with families and their children in the communities most impacted by the storm".
Pence said it was an honor to visit the region with the first lady.
"As we approach Christmas this holiday season, your family is an example of what it means to have hope and recognize your blessings", she said.
In October, Trump made her first official public service announcement, reminding people not to forget about the plight of those Americans affected by Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria.
The first and second ladies will also spend time at a local elementary school, where they will tour classrooms and talk about the hurricane with faculty and students. "In fact, the president shares the same concern and he and his administration continue to fight for resources for the people of Texas".
Trump and Pence were scheduled to stop next at the Coastal Bend Food Bank.
