Reacting on the remark, Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said, "I think it is a well-thought strategy by Congress to use filthy language about the prime minister and spread misinformation". I do not appreciate the tone and language used by Mr Mani Shankar Aiyar to address the PM. In 2014, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra had called him out for his "neech rajniti" (low-level politics) while campaigning in the Congress stronghold of Amethi.
Modi hit out at the Congress over Aiyer's statements.
"He (Modi) is "neech kism ka aadmi" (a vile man) who has no "sabhyata" (civility)", he said, attacking Modi after the latter accused the Congress of seeking votes in B R Ambedkar's name but trying to erase his contribution to building India.
Meanwhile, Aiyar has "apologised" for calling Prime Minister Modi "neech", saying he had a different meaning of the word in mind and that he never called the prime minister a "Chaiwala". Has anyone had to hold his or her head in shame due to me. Have I done any shameful thing?
"They can call me "neech jaati". These are some words or phrases the Congress has used for PM Modi in the past. "Baba Saheb Ambedkar's contribution to nation building is very important, there had been attempts to undermine his role, but such attempts were unsuccessful", he said. Mani Shankar Aiyar was quoted as saying by news agency ANI. "He does not have any manners".
Responding to Mr. Aiyar's remarks, Mr. Modi termed them "Mughal mentality".
Modi said the Congress had insulted him even when he was the chief minister of Gujarat. He told a rally, "Yamraj, Maut Ka Saudagar, Ravan, Gandi Nali Ka Keeda, Monkey, Rabies Victim, Virus, Bhasmasur, Gangu Teli, Goon".
Futher fueling the campaign rhetoric, the Prime Minister recounted the slurs hurled at him by various Congress leaders in the past and augured that their feudal mindset will guarantee their defeat in the assembly election.
He expressed confidence in the Gujarat electorate of not accepting deplorable language of the Congress leaders and vote for the BJP. The second phase of voting will take place on December 14.
