The CJI, on October 30, had indicated that a Constitution Bench would hear the petitions against the validity of Aadhaar scheme from November last week.
Attorney General K K Venugopal said the last date for linking Aadhaar for mobile services will remain February 6, 2018, in pursuance of a judicial order.
The Central government has previously made Aadhaar card mandatory for carrying out nearly all the legal tasks in the country.
This year, the government made the quoting of Aadhaar mandatory for filing income tax returns (ITRs) as well as obtaining a new PAN. Financial assets like mutual funds will also have to be linked to the 12-digit number. They are the ones who are using this duplicate PAN for opening bank accounts and then they are transacting and they are not filing returns.
The government had in August extended by four months the deadline for linking PAN with Aadhaar till December 31, pending the Supreme Court verdict.
One of the counsel representing the petitioners had earlier said that final hearing in the main Aadhaar matter, which is pending before the apex court, was necessary as the government "cannot compel" citizens to link their Aadhaar with either bank accounts or cell phone numbers.
Bank account: According to the available information, the deadline for the banks to link the account of the customer with their Aadhaar is December 31, 2017.
Pan card: Linking of Aadhaar Card to the PAN card can help to stop illegal transaction of money through fake pan cards.
A constitution bench will be setup by next week to hear the interim pleas demanding stay on Centre's order of mandatory linking of Aadhaar Cards with the various schemes.
