U.S. warns Islamic Jihad to drop war threat against Israel

"We are in great pain, not only over their deaths, but because of how Israel is presenting itself as the victor in this demolition", the Al-Hayat report quoted Islamic Jihad leaders as saying. "In any case, we see Hamas as responsible for every attack that emanates from, or is planned against us in the Gaza Strip", he said.

The Israeli army has deployed anti-rocket batteries of its "Iron Dome" air defense system at key points in the country to guard against retaliation by the Palestinian group Islamic Jihad, Israeli media reported late Monday.

The offices where Hamas once searched luggage and its intelligence officers interviewed foreign visitors now lie abandoned, their contents looted since the group handed Gaza's borders over to the PA at the beginning of November, marking the first concrete change since the reconciliation process started.

Greenblatt was referring to the recently signed reconciliation agreement between the Palestinian Authority and Hamas.

Rafah crossing between Egypt and the Gaza Strip is the enclave's only terminal not controlled by Israel.

In a message in Arabic published on Saturday, Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT) head Maj. Any attacks by the Islamic Jihad will elicit a strong response, not only against them, but also against Hamas.

Israel believes that the terror group is set on avenging the deaths of those terrorists, and security officials said that when Israel responds to that vengeance attack - which is likely to be high profile - with a major military action in Gaza, Islamic Jihad, and probably Hamas, will probably begin firing missiles at Israeli civilian communities.

"Threats to target the movement's leadership is a declaration of war, which we will respond to", the Islamic Jihad stated.

A day later, the resistance movement said in a statement on Sunday that it would not back down on its "right to respond to any aggression, including our right to respond to the crime of aggression on the resistance tunnel".

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is warning Gaza militants against attacking Israel after the Islamic Jihad group vowed revenge for the demolition of one of its attack tunnels. "We will take a very firm stance against anyone who tries to attack us or attacks us from any area".
