Two arrested on suspicion of murdering missing teenager

Detectives have arrested two people on suspicion of murder following the disappearance of a vulnerable 19-year-old woman who went missing from the Isle of Purbeck in Dorset a week ago.

Rosemary Dinch, 71, and Nathan Elsey, who appeared in Christopher Nolan's film Dunkirk with Harry Styles, were both held on Monday afternoon in connection with the disappearance of Gaia Pope.

Investigators have said that both the man and the woman are known to Gaia.

'The 71-year-old woman has now been released under investigation.

Neighbours say Gaia had been temporarily staying at Mrs Dinch's house in nearby Swanage when she vanished without a trace.

"She was very upset, she slid to the floor at one point, I gave her a cuddle and she responded to me - I have no idea where she is - she just seems to have disappeared", she said.

Gaia was last seen by family friend Rosemary Dinch at an address in Manor Gardens, Morrison Road, Swanage at about 16:00 GMT. The 19-year-old man remains assisting police with inquiries'.

The social care student suffers from epilepsy and needs regular medication.

Her family also released a statement in which she said: "We are all frantic with worry, Gaia, and are desperate to know you are ok". I would appeal to anyone who has information about her disappearance to please contact Dorset police. She was said to wear a red checked shirt with white catches, dark and white woven tights and white coaches.

Describing her disappearance as "completely out of character", police now believe "she may have come to harm".

Detective Chief Inspector Neil Devoto, who is leading the investigation, said previously: "It has been nearly a week since Gaia's last confirmed sighting and she has not been seen or heard from since".

The search to find Gaia continues today around the Swanage area with support from the coastguard and volunteers from Dorset Search and Rescue and Wessex 4x4.

"You are not in any trouble and we just want to know you are somewhere safe".

Comedian Russell Brand, who met Gaia at a protest, shared a poster of the missing teen, urging his 12 million followers to get in touch.
