The gunfights erupted in Kulgam and Pulwama districts, south of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir. A soldier, who was critically injured in the gunbattle with militants at Nowbug Kund in Kulgam district, succumbed to injuries, PTI reported quoting Army sources.
According to police, hiding militants fired when, on specific information, the police and Army cordoned off Nowbug Kund, Qazigund, and Kulgam.
Two encounters broke out in South Kashmir on Tuesday morning.
Reports of protests have come from Palhalan area of north Kashmir soon after a local militant was laid to rest.
These encounters are taking place after security forces conducted cordon and search operations in the state, reports CNN-News18.
Gunfight was going on, the spokesman said, adding, further details are awaited.
However, when the security forces were moving towards particular area, militants opened fire, they said.
