The new law also ends the restriction that a child and an adult on a mentored hunt carry just one gun between them, meaning that now, an adult could carry a gun on a mentored hunt and a child could carry another.
The new law was signed last weekend by the midwestern state's Republican governor Scott Walker, and goes into effect nearly two weeks after a mass shooting at a Sunday church service in Texas renewed debate over gun violence.
Both the adult and child are allowed to carry weapons under the new law, as long as the adult stays within arm's reach of the young hunter.
Woodchucks can now be hunted under the authority of a small game hunting license and trap woodchucks under a trapping license under Assembly Bill 323.
Todd Schaller is Chief Conservation Warden with the state Department of Natural Resources. "We hope all our hunters have a safe and successful hunting season this year". These seasons now close on December 31. The bill becomes effective February 1, 2018, or the day after publication of the bill, whichever is later. The bill sets them as open through the Sunday nearest January 6 and would statutorily prohibit variation.
Finally, Bill 225 authorizes metro bow/crossbow hunting from the Monday closest to January 6 through January 31, as was strongly supported by the most recent Wisconsin Conservation Congress.
