Didier Drogba ready to retire in New Year

The Ivorian now plays with Phoenix Rising FC in the United Soccer League.

Once Chelsea's man for the big occasion, Didier Drogba has made a decision to call a day on his football career.

Drogba joined second-tier Phoenix in 2017, after leaving Montreal Impact following the conclusion of the 2016 MLS season.

Lampard, Terry and Drogba enjoyed a trophy-laden career at Stamford Bridge and led the side to their first Uefa Champions League triumph in 2012. "There comes a time when you have to stop", said Drogba.

Didier Drogba appeared on French radio station RMC Sport on Monday and had a fairly long conversation with Christophe Dugarry, the former French striker.

"Now, was I part of the project when I wanted to come back?"

Chelsea legend Didier Drogba has suggested that he is likely to call time on his illustrious playing career in just 12 months' time when the 2018 United Soccer League season concludes next November.

He proved that he still had that natural killer instinct in front of goal by netting 10 goals in 14 appearances before Rising were knocked out of the play-offs by Swope Park Rangers.

The Ivory Coast all-time top-scorer has repeatedly been linked with a move back to Stamford Bridge in a non-playing capacity, it will be interesting to see how it pans out.
