A 56-year-old man was killed in an officer-involved shooting in Johnson County on Saturday evening, according to Arkansas State Police.
An officer with the Batesville Police Department in Batesville, Arkansas was shot multiple times on Friday night.
When the vehicle stopped, the driver, identified as Nyung Kyee, stepped out of the vehicle and brandished a knife, the statement said.
Marvin Stair opened fire after a police officer was sent to a home on Neeley Street around 7:40 p.m. Friday, according to a news release from the state police. It happened near the intersection of Cline and Taylor Street.
Cockrill said one officer, whom he declined to name, was placed on administrative leave after the shooting.
Dickinson returned fire, found cover and called for assistance, the state police said.
The officer fired, striking Kyee, who was pronounced dead on scene.
Stair was pronounced dead on the scene. Officers fired at him.
Arkansas State Police are leading the investigation.
Stair's body will be sent to the state Crime Laboratory in Little Rock for examination, the state police said.
Upon completion of the investigation, agents assigned to the Criminal Investigation Division will present an investigative file to the prosecuting attorneys in the Batesville and Clarksville areas for determination of whether use of deadly force was consistent with Arkansas laws.
