Looking for a Win: Penn State has a 2-2 record when GameDay has been in town, but has lost the last two occasions vs. the Hawkeyes and Buckeyes. Penn State has played just one competitive game; at Iowa, where they won 21-19.
Penn State defensive ends Shareef Miller and Shaka Toney have combined for 5.5 sacks and can collapse a pocket in a hurry. Offensively, the Nittany Lions are red hot, as they are 15th, scoring almost 40 points per game. Barkley is the Heisman Trophy front runner and leads the Nittany Lions with 1,044 yards from scrimmage and eight touchdowns.
McSorley leads the team with 1,597 passing yards and 13 touchdowns.
Saquon Barkley's numbers are impressive, 649 rushing yards and 6 TDs while catching the ball 29 times for 395 yards and two more TDs so far this season. What a chance this is for MI to prove all the doubters wrong and put themselves right back in the playoff picture. The Wolverines scored just 10 in the loss to the Spartans.
MI hasn't allowed more than two offensive touchdowns in a game this season, and cornerbacks Lavert Hill and David Long have been excellent in coverage.
The defense once again has been a bright spot for MI. The Wolverines harassed McSorley all game past year, sacking him 6 times.
ESPN programming will begin from the GameDay set on Friday, Oct. 20, with SportsCenter hits throughout the day and an afternoon taping of College Football Live.
Host Kayla Dwyer speaks with The Morning Call's Penn State reporter, Mark Wogenrich, and Barkley's former high school football coach, Brian Gilbert, about Barkley's success and his roots. MI right tackle Juwann Bushell-Beatty played well against IN, and he'll need to be at his best along with veteran left tackle Mason Cole. But, the MI defense is going to step up to the challenge and make this a competitive football game.
Music in this episode was written and produced by Matt Freiler, a junior at Penn State. But, Michigan does all they can to put a scare in them, and covers the spread. The Wolverines and Nittany Lions kick off at 7:30 p.m. on ABC.
