Comedy is an evergreen genre on television. And when Star Plus launched The Great Indian Laughter Challenge, excitement piqued to a different level.
Apparently, the three mentors (Mallika, Zakir and Hussain) are replaced by Bollywood's amusing man Sajid Khan and actor Shreyas Talpade.
Sajid Khan, who has made comedy films such as the Housefull series and Heyy Babyy, was a popular choice to take up the role of the judge while Shreyas' name was finalised after he came for the promotions of Golmaal Again on the show recently. Now, it has to be seen whether the replacements will bring any change in the ratings of the show. Dissing the buzz, Sajid, in an exclusive chat with indianexpress.com quipped, "This is how the entire show was planned". Now that's one exciting development on the show and we're looking forward to it.
The show's producer, Ashvini Yardi said in a statement, "After the several auditions we held across the country, we are now at a critical stage of the show wherein the real competition begins". Mallika Dua, Zakir Khan and Hussain Dalal are seen as mentors.
Akshay Kumar plays the role of the super judge on the show, and owing to its poor performance the mentors of the show are being replaced.
It's surprising that Zakir and Mallika popularity on the internet didn't click on the small screen. While Zakir rose to fame with his stand-up appearances, Mallika's videos with Snapchat filters got her overnight stardom. Hussain, besides being an actor is also a writer.
The Great Indian Laughter Challenge airs every weekend on Star Plus at 8 pm.
