Chennai: Sacked AIADMK interim general secretary V.K. Sasikala was back at the Parapana Agrahara Prison in Bengaluru on Thursday evening after her 5-day parole ended.
Sasikala, a close aide of former Tamil Nadu chief minister Jayalalithaa, has been directed by the authorities to report to the Bengaluru jail on October 12 by 6 pm. "There have been no violations by her during the parole period", he said.Also called the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison, the jail is located in the southern outskirts of the city.
The 60-year-old leader is expected to reach Bengaluru on time to report at the prison complex by 6pm in keeping with the parole condition. On all five-days of her parole in Chennai when she visited her husband M.Natarajan at the private hospital her camp, in a show of strength, ensured that she received moving reception from people at vantage points.
The AIADMK leader was traveling in a auto, which had to stop at several locations like the Trade Centre point as the area was teeming with party cadres to greet and wish her well.
Sasikala's appointment as interim general secretary of AIADMK after the death J Jayalalithaa in December past year was declared as invalid last month by the party's general council meeting held after the merger of factions led by Chief Minister K Palaniswami and his present deputy O Panneerselvam. While granting bail, the court had directed her to keep away from all political activity during the parole period. Her relatives Ilavarasi and V N Sudhakaran are also serving four-year jail terms in the case.
Several party leaders and cadre waited outside the T. Nagar residence where Sasikala stayed for five days to take a glimpse of their leader who just reciprocated their wishes from her vehicle.
Sasikala's visit came at a time when her nephew and sidelined AIADMK leader T T V Dhinakaran and the ruling camp led by Palaniswami and deputy chief minister O Panneerselvam are fighting it out to get the two leaves symbol, which was frozen by the Election Commission.
