Zenmuse X7 Cinematic Vision Rising

It is expected that DJI will soon announce the new Zenmuse X7, a 6K cinematic camera expanding its existing Zenmuse drone camera lineup.

The new camera is made with filmmaking in mind for videography professionals and is created to work with the DJI Inspire 2 drone.

Now, the company has unveiled its most advanced model yet, the Zenmuse X7 camera, which it claims captures the highest resolution images of any drone shooter on the market. It can also capture 3.9K Cinema DNG RAW or 2.7K ProRes at 59.94 FPS, which should meet the needs of most post-production work from Hollywood on down (or up I guess, depending on your perspective).

The new Super 35mm sensor features 14-stops of dynamic range, with low-noise capabilities for low-light scenarios.

The X7 also introduces the DL-Mount, the world's first aerial lens mount system to quickly switch among four available prime lenses (16, 24, 35, 50 mm), creating a completely integrated system with professional gimbals and drones such as the Inspire 2. Created to work with the DJI Inspire 2 drone the Zenmuse X7 uses interchangeable lenses and also has a new DJI Cinema Color System for post production.

The X7 is available with four carbon fibre-bodied lenses, in 16mm, 24mm, 35mm and 50mm focal lengths, reports Fstoppers, all of which come with maximum apertures of f/2.8.

"For the Zenmuse X7, we took our color science to the next level", continued Pan. They consulted Technicolor. With their guidance, DJI engineers developed an optimized gamma curve for the X7 allowing more latitude without sacrificing image quality. The camera now features a new D-Log profile called DJI Cinema Color System or DCCS. The D-Log further extends the dynamic range, while the D-Gamut RGB color space preserves more color information providing accurate color for quick and easy post-processing.

The high tech camera is designed with professional videographers and filmmakers in mind so a professional price tag comes along with it. All together, the array weighs only 631 grams with the 16mm lens attached. The base Zenmuse X7 costs $2,699 by itself, while every lens save for the 50mm costs $1,299 (the long-ranged lens costs $100 less). Customers can purchase the Zenmuse X7 prime lens combo including all 4 lenses for $4,299 ( € 4.899). This high resolution footage is created to integrate with industry-standard post-production workflows. The Zenmuse X7 will start shipping in early November 2017 from store.dji.com, in DJI Flagship Stores and through DJI Authorized Dealers worldwide.
