Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Sammy Watkins is doing his best to keep his emotions in check after being held to just one catch for 17 yards in his last two outings. Watkins made some noise about the lack of work on Twitter, responding to a tweet from Torry Holt which questioned his workload by saying, "Something gotta be going on".
Marrone spoke to the Los Angeles media Wednesday ahead of the Jaguars' Week 6 clash with the Rams and said that he wasn't thrilled with Buffalo's choice to draft Watkins.
When asked if he saw a way to increase his role on the offense, Watkins said, "I don't know".
By at least one measure, Watkins has been the Rams' most efficient receiver. A whopping 108 players in the National Football League have been targeted more than Watkins (20) this season, including 38 running backs and tight ends.
On a personal level, Watkins' frustration could be understandable. The Bills decided not to exercise the fifth year option on Watkins' contract this past offseason, allowing him to test the free agency market. "For me, I just want to have fun and ball". It's a great team.
"No, I think I've got enough money", Watkins said with a grin. "I really respect the way Sammy handled our conversation, in terms of taking the accountability to know that it's about snap-in and snap-out (readiness), and really the tape is what tells the story. I just want to be a part of it and make plays and score touchdowns". Then, in London, the Rams will face Arizona, which is more porous on pass defense but will present a tough matchup with cornerback Patrick Peterson.
THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. (AP) - Sammy Watkins realizes the size of his next National Football League contract depends partly on his numbers for the Los Angeles Rams this season. We're going to be open. "Hopefully everything will start working out".
