The 170-pound contest will headline UFC Fight Night at Bell MTS Place.
Former UFC champions Robbie Lawler and Rafael dos Anjos will meet in a five-round welterweight main event on December 16 in Winnipeg, per UFC officials. This news was announced by the UFC on Thursday morning.
Lawler recently got back in the win column after a high-profile setback, outpointing Donald Cerrone in July at UFC 214. This bout marked Lawler's return to action after more than a year on the sidelines.
Lawler sat out for nearly exactly one year after suffering a knockout loss to Tyron Woodley that cost him the welterweight title in 2016. In his next most recent outing, he defeated former Strikeforce champion Tarec Saffiedine by decision.
The fight against Lawler will give dos Anjos the chance to prove his run at welterweight is no fluke as he tries to put himself into position to fight for the gold next year.
Having lost his lightweight crown to Eddie Alvarez past year and then being defeated by Tony Ferguson, Dos Anjos stepped up to welterweight in 2017, where he duly dispatched the likes of Tarec Saffiedine and Neil Magny, whom he submitted last month. As such, this fight could very well produce the welterweight division's next title challenger.
