Man Utd management determined to keep hold of Mata, Herrera

Spain global Mata has developed as a key player for Jose Mourinho at United despite being sold by the manager while he was at Chelsea.

The Spanish global has helped the Red Devils make an unbeaten start in 2017-18, scoring once in seven league appearances.

The Spaniard has been with United since moving from Chelsea for £37.1m in 2014, and has established himself as a firm fan favourite at the club for his ability and attitude.

And the Daily Mirror say the Spain global is set to have his contact renewed as a reward for his impressive displays for Manchester United.

The midfielder is set to have a one-year extension triggered in his current contract which is worth £165,000-a-week.

According to David McDonnell in the Mirror, Mata's representatives were "sounded out" about a potential switch to China, but the idea was rejected.

But Mata is happy to snub any financial boost in order to prolong his United career.

And, speaking ahead of the Anfield showdown, he reiterated the importance of the fixture.

Mata will be out of contract come the end of the season and the 29-year-old has emerged as a target for a number of Chinese Super League clubs.

Despite the presence of Anthony Martial, Jesse Lingard, Marcus Rashford, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Herrera in the squad Mata has started six of United's seven Premier League games this term, netting one goal against Crystal Palace, per WhoScored.com.

"This is one of the big games of the season without a doubt", he said.

He added: "I also hope that none of my team-mates has physical problems in the second game with the national teams as it was the case with (Marouane) Fellaini, to whom I wish a speedy recovery".
