In a major embarrassment to Jammu and Kashmir government, the picture of the chairperson of radical women's outfit Dukhtaran-e-Millat (Daughters of Faith) Asiya Andrabi has surfaced in a poster of "Beti Bachao Beti Padhao" campaign.
The list of 12, which started with the Chief Minister, also included former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, Puducherry Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi, noted singer Lata Mangeshkar and tennis star Sania Mirza. Mohammad Yunus Malik, the Deputy Commissioner of Anantnag said that Shameema Akhtar, the child development project officer has been placed under suspension and an inquiry is ordered into the incident.
Andrabi, who is now detained under the Public Safety Act, heads Dukhtaran-e-Millat (daughter of nation) outfit which openly calls for merger of Jammu and Kashmir with Pakistan.
Asiya Andrabi is known for her pro-Pakistan stance on Kashmir issue. Picture of separatist leader Andrabi, who remained lodged in Srinagar Central Jail, was featured in the banners displayed during a tourism festival at health resort of Kokernag on Wednesday to promote "Beti Bachao Beti Padhao" campaign of central government. It was launched by the Narendra Modi government to tackle the "decline in CSR (child sex ratio) in 100 gender-critical districts", the Women and Child Development ministry says on its website.
"Some local officer's favourite people", tweeted former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, pointing out that he would have been hauled over coals had the mistake happened on his watch.
