Police have opened a criminal investigation after a doctor at an after-hours clinic became verbally aggressive toward a patient for complaining about the long wait time, reports WCJB TV20 News, an ABC affiliate in Gainesville.
The doctor concerned at the Gainesville After-Hours Clinic, 926 NW 13th St., Peter Gallogly, is now under criminal investigation, Gainesville Police spokesman Officer Ben Tobias said, according to The Gainesville Sun. She said Gallogly also grabbed her daughter's phone, who was recording the incident, and pushed her when she tried to get the phone back.
He says the video patient Jessica Stipe posted was the last minute of an "hour-long episode" that included Stipe cussing and threatening staff, even after her co-payment was returned.
"You came in and said, 'I'm going to check your pee, '" she responded.
Stipe said she has contacted an attorney.
But Gallogly claimed the video was "heavily edited and taken out of context", in a statement obtained by CBS 4 Gainesville.
In the post that has since been shared more than 1,800 times, Stipe wrote that she was "severely sick" and had made a 6:30 appointment at the clinic. By 7:45 was not seen still in severe pain and throwing up in the trash can.
When Stipe told the doctor that she just wanted to return to her home and wanted her co-pay back, the doctor told her to leave instantly.
"Are you kidding me? Gallogly responds." Do you know how many people. "When he saw it was being recorded he snatched my baby's phone and shoved her when she tried to get it back". "We've already been working on you. We've done a urine test on you, I've seen you".
"Then fine. Get the hell out", he said. "Get your money and get the hell out".
"If you go to CareSpot, you're waiting for three hours". Stipe believed she had symptoms of pneumonia, according to the Independent Florida Alligator, the University of Florida's student newspaper.
The pair continue to argue before the doctor yelled, "Get the f-- out of my office!", and opened the door for the mother and daughter to leave.
"At the very end of the events, I most regrettably lost my temper, and spoke to the two women in a most unprofessional manner". "I make no excuses for my unacceptable behavior".
Stipe's daughter can be heard asking Gallogly what his name is.
So he grabbed the phone and began to walk off with it, video shows.
"My daughter recorded it because they were so rude", Stipe wrote.
