While Honeypreet Insan is proving to be a tough nut to crack for the Haryana Police, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has recovered a hard disk containing details of Rs 700 crore property of Gurmeet Ram Rahim, the Dera Sacha Sauda head who is now lodged in Rohtak jail serving a 20-year sentence for raping his two disciples in 2002. The revelations were made by Rakesh Kumar, personal assistant-cum-driver of Gurmeet, during interrogation.
Police officials believe the money was used to pay supporters to spark a riot in Panchkula in the event of Gurmeet being convicted of rape by the CBI court.
Four people who were taken into custody during Panchkula violence have confirmed to the police that they were made sterilized by the Dera.
Rakesh Kumar is now in the custody of the special investigation team (SIT) headed by ACP Mukesh Malhotra. Rakesh was arrested on September 27.
On August 26, Kumar, the then deputy commissioner of police in Panchkula, was suspended by the Haryana government, a day after at least 35 people died in the district in violence triggered by the self-styled godmans conviction.
Chawla said efforts were on to nab other two top functionaries of the sect, Aditya Insan and Pawan Insan, who were also on the run since August 25. The disk, which is also said to be also containing the details about the Ram Rahim's associates, will be handed over to Enforcement Directorate (ED) for further investigations. ACP also confirmed that the broad planning of the violence on August 25 was done in the Dera headquarters in Sirsa ahead of the verdict in the rape case. Sources said the hard disk may also reveal vital inputs about arms and ammunition in possession of the Dera. Iqbal had taken her to Sunaria jail where Gurmeet is lodged. Gupta claimed he married Honeypreet in 1999 on the direction of the Dera chief before filing for divorce in 2011. The cops have got information revealing the transaction of crores of rupees.
