Jordin Sparks makes silent but powerful statement during last night's national anthem

When Jordin Spark took to the stage on Monday night to perform the national anthem during the Cardinals versus Cowboys NFL game in Arizona, it was not just her angelic voice that people paid attention to.

"Speak up for those who can not speak for themselves; ensure justice for those being crushed", the scripture reads to according to the New Living Translation of the Bible.

But she did make a silent statement of her own through a note written on her hand. "Yes, speak up for the poor and helpless, and see that they get justice".

Sparks' boyfriend Dana Isaiah also posted a picture later in the night on how proud he was that she spoke up.

He captioned the image: 'Way to use your platform babe!

The protests hit a tipping point this weekend after Trump made comments about player taking a knee during the anthem, saying they were disrespecting the United States flag and even calling for them to be fired.

Trump has said that kneeling during the anthem is disrespectful to American service members and to the national anthem.

Sparks choice of Proverbs is in line with the spirit of the protest started by former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who originally took a knee during the national anthem to protest police brutality and racial inequalities. He tweeted on Tuesday morning, 'The NFL has all sorts of rules and regulations.
