Target is hiring more than 100000 holiday workers

( TGT ) said it plans to hire approximately 100,000 team members across the country for the upcoming holiday season.

Target also said it will hire 4,500 people for the season at its distribution and fulfillment centers, which supply products to its 1,816 stores and fulfill online orders.

Target past year hired 70,000 in-store workers for the holiday period, hiring cautiously along with others such as Macy's Inc M.N. , as most retailers planned for subdued sales amid growing competition from Amazon.com Inc AMZN.O .

During the weekend of October 13 through October 15, Target is holding in-store seasonal hiring events between 10 A.M. and 6 P.M. There will be on-site interviews and some jobs offered then and there, the company said. The company says applicants can interview and even be offered jobs on the spot.

Seasonal employees will get a 10% discount on all Target merchandise and a 20% "wellness discount" on fruits, vegetables, Simply Balanced foods and athletic gear.

Target plans to hire 30,000 more people than previous year during the holiday season to improve customer service.
