New Apple store coming to Chicago October 20

It's a big day for Apple.

The store will have numerous new elements introduced at a San Francisco Apple store that opened a year ago, he said, including an outdoor plaza, a gathering place centered around a video wall Apple calls "The Forum" that can host events and classes, a stretch of windowlike displays showing off products and indoor ficus trees. And in typical Apple fashion, the new store combines form and function to deliver perhaps the most transformative retail offerings in years. Now the company is repositioning those stores as lifestyle centers.

Despite filings with the Department of Buildings to remove the glass cube in its entirety, a rendering displayed during the presser shows that the cube will very much be present when the store reopens.

In addition, Apple is opening a new flagship store in Chicago, on Michigan Avenue, on October 20.

Apple also said it was making changes to the design of some of its stores, including its New York City Fifth Avenue location, which will feature an open plaza to let in natural sunlight. Apple is in the midsts of expanding the store's footprint from 32,000 square feet to 77,000 square feet.
