Flipkart targets doubling of sales this Big Billion Day

While the company says it will continue to focus on higher spending urban customers with offerings such as EMI on debit cards, no-cost-EMI, and even an option to pay for a product only after it has been purchased, a lot of focus has been put on offering deals tailored to customers from smaller towns.

Both the Bengaluru-based companies have negotiated with big brands and sellers to pass-on large discounts to shoppers by more than doubling up their inventory line-up, four senior industry executives said.

That would imply that Flipkart is aiming to touch sales of around Rs 6,000-9,000 crore (about $1-1.5 billion) during the five-day event this year.

Country's largest e-commerce marketplace Flipkart will host its fourth annual flagship BigBillionDays sale starting on September 20 and is expecting sales during the five-day period, until September 24, to grow between three-fold compared to past year.

In a delight for tech lovers, Ecommerce major Flipkart will soon launch its festive season sale and will offer a number of top-end phones with special discounts. Apart from deals and offers, this time users will have access to unique and exclusive selection across 80+ categories.

"We'll build upon the success of Prime Day. Our subscriptions have gone up two times since January.we're seeing a lot of interest from customers in signing up for Prime before Diwali", said Agarwal, adding that Amazon will roll out special offers for existing Prime members. Amazon India did not confirm the dates.

The Diwali season clash between Amazon and Flipkart is expected to be as hard fought as past year. A few days later, in an interview with Mint, Agarwal responded to the put-down by saying Amazon had accomplished in three years what Flipkart hadn't despite launching much earlier and acquiring several companies including Myntra and Jabong.

Flipkart is also planning to make offers more exciting beyond discounts with financing options. "Over the years, it has grown from being Flipkart's largest shopping carnival, to being synonymous with the festive season and Indians now relate to is as the #1 festive sale in the country".

As per the sources reports, Flipkart is celebrating the completion of 10 years and that's the reason they made a decision to look forward to the sale.
