Archer (forearm) will not start Friday's game against the Red Sox, though he said he's hoping to pitch Saturday or Sunday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. "He'll play catch tomorrow, we'll see how he feels, and then we'll probably put our heads together and see what the best-case scenario is for him".
The Rays initially announced Archer was removed as a precaution with tightness in his right forearm.
Archer was forced from his start in the first inning over the weekend, after giving up home runs to the first two batters of the game.
Archer's combination of a 90-plus miles per hour fastball and a devastating slider has allowed him to establish himself as the Rays ace over the past few seasons.
He's stayed mostly healthy during that rise to stardom, making at least 33 starts in each of the last three campaigns.
