This is the first total solar eclipse to sweep the United States from coast to coast in almost a century, although I Washington experienced about 80 percent coverage of the sun.
Donald Trump wore proper safety glasses to look at the solar eclipse that crossed the US today - at least at first.
"Don't look", a voice shouted from the crowd of aides below, in a failed attempt to remind the president not to look directly at the sun.
Trump will address the nation tonight at 9:00pm ET on the Afghanistan war. The president, along with First Lady Melania Trump and their son Barron, had glasses with him, but couldn't resist a brief unprotected peek.
Someone from off camera yelled, "Don't look!" Trump was later photographed wearing paper glasses, seemingly having come to his senses after doing something so ungodly stupid. Naturally, they had the protective eyewear necessary to view the eclipse. "The way the damage occurs on a cellular basis is that the UV rays from the sun induces a photochemical reaction that damages the photo receptors of the retina, and the part of the retina that's damaged is the part that's responsible for your central vision". Any amount of looking at it is too long. You knew it would happen. Even Ivanka Trump and Tiffany Trump, the president's daughters, used glasses.
Remember, Mr. President: "Any amount of looking is too long".
