Malia Obama Spotted at Harvard for Move

Former first daughter Malia Obama has been spotted in Cambridge a week before she is set to begin her freshman year at Harvard University. Now it's clear why.

Summer is nearly over, which means it's time for all those college kids to come back to town.

Freshman orientation events officially kick off Tuesday evening, but classes don't start until August 30, giving Malia some time to explore campus and get to know her classmates.

Obama, 19, took a gap year that involved extensive travel, work, and an internship. The elder Obama daughter didn't waste her time off, though, as she worked as an intern for Hollywood producer Harvey Weistein after previously working as a production assistant for Halle Barry's CBS series "Extant".

The Obamas spent a stretch of their summer in the area, returning once again to Martha's Vineyard, one of their go-to vacation spots over the years.

Barack Obama studied at Columbia University and attended Harvard Law School, where he was elected the first black president of the Harvard Law Review in 1990.

Boston Globe reporter Steve Annear approached her on campus, but she declined to comment. She shared her college news in June on Instagram.
