Voters in Utah are casting ballots in a three-person Republican primary to fill the congressional seat recently vacated by Jason Chaffetz.
The more conservative wing is split between Tanner Ainge (aynj), son of Boston Celtics president Danny Ainge, and Chris Harris, a former state lawmaker backed by Texas Sen. Because the third district is overwhelmingly Republican, the victor of the Republican primary will likely win the race in November.
Curtis, who was endorsed by Utah's Republican Governor, faced criticism for having once been a Democrat but is now considered the favorite to win the U.S. House seat.
Chaffetz held Utah's Republican-heavy 3rd Congressional District seat for eight years. He announced his resignation in June after rising through the political ranks for his persistent investigations into Hillary Clinton's emails.
"The numbers were too insurmountable", Ainge's press aide said.
The victor of Tuesday's election is expected to cruise to victory in November's special election.
