Vikings sign RB Hill after loss of Sankey

The Minnesota Vikings signed running back Bronson Hill on Saturday after running back Bishop Sankey was waived with an injury designation.

Sankey suffered a season-ending knee injury in Thursday night's 17-10 win over the Buffalo Bills in the preseason opener.

The news is a tough blow for a guy who has been struggling to make it in the National Football League since getting drafted in the second round by the Tennessee Titans back in 2014.

He was released by Jacksonville in May after joining the team's practice squad last September. He was hurt at the end of a 14-yard run at Buffalo on Thursday and left the stadium on crutches. Sankey can be placed on injured reserve after clearing waivers.

Sankey was listed third on the team's official depth chart behind rookie Dalvin Cook and Jerick McKinnon. Hill, who beat out former Gophers running back David Cobb in a workout, played three games with the Jaguars a year ago, carrying twice for 11 yards. Before that, he entered the league as an undrafted free agent in 2015 with the Bills.
