We have just learned through WrestlingInc. that WWE United Kingdom Champion, Pete Dunne, has suffered an injury that will make him unable to defend the United Kingdom Championship at a PROGRESS show like he was supposed to. According to Michael Oleaga of Top Rope Press, who was in attendance at the show, Dunne and Carter wrestled all across the gymnasium and the match rushed to its finish suddenly when Dunne started bleeding.
PROGRESS co-owner Jim Smallman announced the news in a video that the company tweeted this morning, saying that Dunne received 11 stitches to his head following a match last night and isn't medically cleared to compete this weekend. Another report suggested the cut occurred when Darius performed the Pedigree on Dunne, which did look awkward. Dunne reportedly did not look pleased as he left the arena. The shows will remain pretty much as we advertised them. Prior to the Brooklyn show starting, there was already a meet and greet with numerous event's stars meeting fans, which included British Strong Style.
Dunne's injury was unfortunate for various reasons - his personal health, the reputation for Carter, and for the wrestling promotions involved.
PROGRESS has yet to announce a new opponent for Gallagher or any other changes to the NY show's lineup.
