An encounter occurred between security forces and terrorists in Awneera village of Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian on Saturday evening. According to reports, two to three terrorists are believed to be trapped.
He said that when a cordon was laid and the area surrounded by the security forces, the hidinmg terrorists resorted to heavy firing to break the security cordon and escape.
The SSP Shopian said they don't have any information about the number of trapped militants. Locals tried to hamper the counter-insurgency operation but police prevented them from going near the gunfight spot, said an official, adding that teargas canisters were used by forces.
Earlier, a search operation was launched by the security forces in Noorabad village of Pulwama's Tral area but the militants hiding in there managed to escape under the cover of darkness, the sources said. "Once the operation is over, we can give the details of the militants", he said.
Police said more security personnel - including the police, the Army and the Central Reserve Police Force - had been rushed to the area and three more villages were brought under the extended cordon.
