M. Venkaiah Naidu on Friday took oath as the new Vice President at a simple ceremony in Rashtrapati Bhawan's Durbar Hall here.
Mr. Naidu was elected the 13th Vice-President of India on Saturday.
He said, "With his experience, he will add great value to the office of the Vice-President in India and the chairman of the Rajya Sabha".
Opposition nominee Gopalkrishna Gandhi secured 244 votes out of 760 valid votes.
Rajya Sabha on Thursday gave an emotional farewell to Hamid Ansari.
Earlier today, Naidu paid tribute to Deen Dayal Upadhaya at DDU Park. He also paid tributes to Jan Sangh leader Deendayal Upadhyaya, besides Sardar Vallabhai Patel and Babasaheb B.R. Ambedkar. The total polling percentage recorded was 98.21.
Naidu was born on born on July 1, 1949 at Chavatapelam, Andhra Pradesh. Before he was NDA's Vice Presidential candidate he held the portfolios of Parliamentary Affairs, Information and Broadcasting and Urban Development.
