Sanchez will miss Arsenal's Premier League opener with Leicester City on Friday night due to an abdominal strain, with Wenger having said this week he is "out for a while".

Wenger, who has repeatedly insisted the Chile global will stay in north London, was eager to stress that Sanchez's absence from training was due to an abdominal strain he picked up before the game against Chelsea in the Community Shield. He had the scan two days ago. "I just think we are not open - what I said to you many times - to any offers, anyway".

Sanchez's Arsenal future has been subject of intense speculation throughout the off-season with Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain backing out of a chase for the Chilean, who reportedly still interests Manchester City. "They are looking for Mbappe, that's what I read in the papers".

Arsenal are becoming increasingly concerned that Alexis Sanchez might yet force his way out of the Emirates before the end of the transfer window.

The 28-year-old watched from the stands as Olivier Giroud's late header earned the Gunners three points. Personally I think he is a hugely talented player, he's on the way up and he will continue to move up because the potential is there.

"I felt that to lose tonight would have been bad for us because we had such good preparation and to sit there in the morning and think we had lost at home would have been awful", he said.

"He's very conscious of his qualities, he was not always". Wenger also confirmed goalkeeper David Ospina will stay at the club and fight for the No 1 shirt with Petr Cech this season.
