Trump's war threats against North Korea 'the art of the bluff': Zakaria

Sixty-four Democratic members of the House of representatives - including John Conyers, the only member of Congress to have fought in the Korean War - sent a letter to US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson on August 10 expressing "profound concern over the statements made by President Trump that dramatically increased tensions with North Korea and raised the specter of nuclear war".

Conyers and 63 other House lawmakers sent letter to Tillerson asking administration to "speak with caution and restraint " US politicians and the Korean-American community continue to criticize US President Donald Trump over his "fire and fury" remarks on August 8. Speaking at a photo op at his Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey, Trump warned North Korea not to threaten the United States again or it would "face fire and fury like the world has never seen".

Commenting on the threats, Zakaria said on Thursday, "It's stunning what President Trump has been doing".

Rubio was among many Republicans in the 2016 presidential primary and he and Trump had a heated and at times publicly contentious relationship previous year.

Should the day come for Donald Trump to make that speech from the Oval Office about why he's about to do what everyone hopes he never has to do, I think all of us would appreciate a little more accuracy about the underlying facts than we had the last time.

He added, "In this case, what we have is the art of the bluff".

Trump meanwhile continued his war rhetoric against North Korea on Friday, saying a military option against North Korea is "locked and loaded".

Although Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty states that an attack on one NATO member is an act of aggression against the entire military alliance, the application of this provision is limited only to attacks on member states' territories in North America, Europe and the Atlantic.

McCain said in the radio interview that the Trump administration should immediately engage with China following the reports that the North Korean military now has a miniaturized nuclear device that can fit atop an intercontinental ballistic missile.

"Marchers carried signs that read 'Let's become bullets and bombs defending Kim Jong Un, '" Tracy said.
