"President Trump is on his way to his country club in New Jersey for a two week vacation but the White House is not getting a break when it comes to the Russian Federation investigation", said White House correspondent Jim Acosta.
"After 200 days, rarely has any Administration achieved what we have achieved... not even close!" Look at rallies in Penn, Iowa, Ohio, and West Virginia. That is down from Quinnipiac's June 29 survey, which showed the president with 55 percent disapproval and 40 percent approval. In 1998, during the Kenneth Starr investigation that unearthed the president's relationship with Monica Lewinsky, 24 percent of those polled said they believed Clinton had done something illegal, 47 percent said they thought he did something unethical but not illegal and 24 percent said Clinton did nothing wrong.
The president was even underwater among white people without a college education - the heart of his election-winning coalition last November - registering 43 percent approval and 50 percent disapproval with that group.
As evidence of his support among his base, Trump in his tweets cited recent campaign rallies that he has held in Pennsylvania, Iowa, Ohio and West Virginia.
Trump, who is staying at his golf club in Bedminster, has bristled at characterizations of his stay as a "vacation". If economic optimism has risen to such a degree, then that seems more like an indicator of true strength for Trump more than approval ratings - which have always been poor for him anyway.
He has no public events scheduled on Monday.
