Arsenal and Liverpool in transfer battle for Brazilian attacker Luan

It seemed that Luan would be on his way to Spartak Moscow for £18m earlier this Summer, but that deal collapsed, and Zero Hoya are now reporting that Liverpool and Arsenal are keen to sign the 24-year-old.

However, vice-president Odorico Roman insists the club have received no communication from the Reds regarding a potential swoop.

"I do not know of any other proposal", he said.

Arsenal will need to wait to offload players surplus to requirements within their squad before they make a move though, with Wenger admitting he's looking to trim his side, which leaves the door open for Liverpool or another interested party to seal a move. "We had two firm approaches, from Sampdoria and Spartak".

Sport Express have reported Luan's move to Spartak has stalled due to a disagreement in talks between Gremio and Spartak.

Discussing his future on Wednesday, Luan said: "I will decide soon".

"I saw people on social media asking me to stay".

"On Thursday, I'll speak more calmly and give you the answer".

Luan has made one appearance for the Brazilian national team and is expected to be called up for Brazil's World Cup qualifiers against Ecuador and Colombia later this month.
