Republican lawmakers voiced their support for Reince Priebus, President Donald Trump's chief of staff whose resignation was announced Friday, including House Speaker Paul Ryan, who said his fellow Wisconsinite "left it all out on the field".
"As we watch the dust settle on all of this, the big question ends up being one thing - Can this new White House Chief of Staff help President Trump pass his agenda on Capitol Hill? He is a Great American....", Trump tweeted about the former Marine Corps general.
Yet another member of the Trump administration is leaving.
MCEVERS: What is your sense from your sources and what you're hearing about whether John Kelly will have a better chance in this job than Priebus did?
Mr Trump had focused on Mr Kelly in recent days, telling those close to him that he loved the general's star power and believed military discipline was what his administration needed. "A new direction - and an entirely new breed of leaders to see it through - is desperately needed if Trump is to fulfill the promises he made to the American people".
US Representative Michael McCaul, a Texas Republican who chairs the House Homeland Security Committee, is among those being considered for Homeland Security secretary, a DHS official said.
"The entire administration loves him [Kelly] and no one is comparable", she said.
Kelly's Department of Homeland Security is responsible for enforcing border security and has taken a tough line on immigrants inside the United States. "When you go through thick and thin together you get to know people really well, and he's a good man and I was honored to be able to serve him". "But I understand why Reince said this is just not something I want to be part of".
Priebus' ally from the RNC, Press Secretary Sean Spicer, resigned after Scaramucci was hired. "He intuitively determined that it was time to do something differently and I think it was right".
Priebus traveled with Trump earlier in the day to an appearance in Brentwood, New York. "I think this is good for the president". "It's not like it's a situation where there's a lot of ill feelings".
