The MasterChef finale came down to the wire with world champion chocolatier Kirsten Tibballs' pressure test dessert.
'To protect the victor and the highly anticipated result, two endings of MasterChef Australia are filmed by our production partner, ' said the spokesperson.
During the final, her first two dishes seemed to have given her a comfortable lead, but Ungermann soon caught up.
Many viewers, however, claimed on social media, the finale was set up by the programme's producers to make for better viewing given how close the scores were - Chan had 90 points while Ungermann 89.
Chan, who grew up in Johor Baru and now works as an accountant in Victoria according to The Star Online, walked away with AUD$250,000 (RM848,642) in prize money, a trophy plus a monthly food column in Delicious magazine. "MasterChef victor Diana Chan says she's been "inundated with awesome opportunities" just hours after her grand final victory", Daily Mail Online, July 24, 2017; http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-4725434/MasterChef-s-Diana-Chan-life-winning-title.html, last accessed July 22, 2017.
She is also the second Malaysian-born victor of MasterChef Australia.
Chan said her secret weapon was her ability to remain calm. She further stated that there is no point to panic, and that a methodical and logical approach always helps to achieve your goal. "I believe I handled the pressure pretty well".
"I was so nervous, looking at her walk through the door was definitely very intimidating".
However the hopeful restauranteur did reveal that the final challenge was the one that nearly broke her.
The final round saw the pair attempting to recreate "Queen of Chocolate" Kirsten Tibballs' Trio of Fruits. She had difficulty putting together the complex elements and had accidentally broken her pear's stem with just seconds left on the clock.
"Doing that cook was the most stressful situation I've ever been in my life", she said, according to SMH. "By the end, it was just all waterworks".
"A part of the restaurant, the goal I want to do, the fresh casual restaurant, I want to have a corporate catering kitchen at the back that does boardroom lunches", she said. She said fans could expect to purchase fast, "wholesome meals" that embrace fusion flavours.
