Virginia Tech senior wide receiver Cam Phillips has been named to the Biletnikoff Award Watch List and senior kicker Joey Slye has been selected to the Wuerffel Trophy Watch List, the award's respective committees announced Tuesday. His selection marks the 12th time in the past 13 seasons where a Red Raider has been a nominee for the Biletnikoff Award, which is presented annually to the nation's top receiver.
Thompson, a senior, was a first-team All-MAC selection in 2016. In 24 career games (18 starts), Rahming has collected 113 pass receptions for 1,313 yards (11.62) and three touchdowns.
In 2016, Willis finished fifth in the Mid-American Conference with 72 receptions and was fourth with 1,087 yards, averaging 83.9 yards per game.
Coutee, Tech's top returning receiver from a year ago, is one of 45 wideouts listed on the watch list. Howard is one of only five ends or receivers who has won the Heisman Trophy, joining Larry Kelley, Leon Hart, Johnny Rodgers and Biletnikoff Award voter Tim Brown. Devin Ross and Shea Fields of the University of Colorado made the watch list as well.
The 2017 Biletnikoff Award victor will be announced December 7 during The Home Depot College Football Awards Show. College Football Hall of Famer and Heisman Trophy victor Desmond Howard will present the 2017 Biletnikoff Award victor on the show. The 2017 Biletnikoff Award victor will be presented his trophy before 550 patrons at the Biletnikoff Award Banquet at the University Center Club at Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee on Saturday, Feb. 10, 2018. Fred Biletnikoff, a member of the pro and college football halls of fame, was an All-America receiver at Florida State, and an All-Pro receiver for the Oakland Raiders. Entering the 2017 campaign, his name appears on the Memphis career charts for receptions (4), receiving yards (3) and touchdown catches (2).
