Democrats need to net 24 seats to win back the House.
JOE CROWLEY: We're disappointed.
The former mayor of New York City pointed out Hillary Clinton's campaign poor slogan. He was backed by "a lot of liberal money from the Democrats and Pelosi", said another from the National Republican Congressional Committee. That a win in Georgia was going to be a huge referendum on what they perceive as unhappiness with the GOP party and our president blanketing the American landscape.
However, Pelosi said she welcomes the questioning of her leadership - while also suggesting that her critics are just seeking media attention.
LINDA SANCHEZ: In the previous election, the Republican candidate won by more than 20 points.
Despite the string of losses in special elections, some Democrats said there were reasons to be encouraged.
And Republicans say just narrowing the margins in red districts still spells a loss.
BENNETT: Like Ryan, Congressman Seth Moulton of MA is also venting about the loss.
Some Democrats have called the resistance to Mr Trump electric.
"I don't know that it's possible at this point to change our party leadership", Moulton said.
On Thursday, Trump jumped into the political fray, taking a swipe at Pelosi and Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer in a tweet. Mr Biden asked a rally - an extraordinary question for a former leader to ask a party that once considered itself the natural home of the worker. Moulton is a 38-year-old Iraq war veteran elected to Congress in 2014. She's also expected to become one of the most closely-watched junior lawmakers in Washington given the symbolism of her win.
"Tonight I stand before you, extraordinarily humbled and honored at the tremendous privilege and high responsibility that you. have given me", Handel told a boisterous crowd that chanted Trump's name. "So let's get started on winning the races where we really do have a chance". That's the most important part.
Democrats also lost a special election in SC on Tuesday in a race Republicans were widely expected to win.
"My decision about how long I stay is not up to them", Pelosi said earlier in the conference.
Ossoff certainly didn't lose over a lack of cash.
Pelosi also incorrectly predicted that Democrats were poised to take back the House a year ago, leading some of her colleagues to feel that this time around, she needs to deliver. Ryan believes those ads were instrumental in the Republicans' victories.
Congress will have to wait to see whether there will be two party leaders named Ryan. He tried and failed last fall to unseat Pelosi as House minority leader.
Congressman Bill Pascrell of New Jersey said, "A loss is a loss is a loss, and there's no excuses". "They're anxious about paying the bills".
"She's easy to demonize". We're used to that.
Despite the backlash from some Democrats, Pelosi still has a strong base of support within the party. Races such as Ossoff's, competitive seats that have been held by the GOP for years, need to be a focus.
