Pakistan's foreign ministry confirms downing of Iran drone

The FO's statement came a day after a Pakistan Air Force JF-17 Thunder jet shot down an unmanned Iranian drone allegedly on a spying mission in Balochistan's Panjgur area.

He says the drone was downed on Monday as it flew up to 4 kilometers, or 2.5 miles, inside Pakistani territory, in the Panjgur sector close to the Pakistani-Iranian border.

During the weekly news briefing, the spokesperson said that Pakistan's policy regarding drone strikes had always been clear.

Zakaria also confirmed that Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will be visiting Pakistan over the weekend to discuss "all issues of mutual interest including the regional situation".

"We can not accept the continuation of this situation", Major General Mohammad Baqeri, the head of the Iranian armed forces was quoted as saying by state news agency IRNA.

Instead, the spokesperson said that Pakistan values its relationship with America and would work closely with the Trump administration.

He stressed that Pakistan and China are working to restore peace in Afghanistan.

During the briefing, Pakistan foreign office spokesman also rejected Afghanistan reservations over the fencing of Pakistan-Afghanistan border and said the construction of fencing would stop militants' cross border movements. "Two-way visits will help strengthening Pakistan-Afghanistan ties", he opined.

To a question, the spokesperson said Pakistan has already expressed its desire to work with the new USA administration.

He added, Afghanistan has constituted three teams to rescue the diplomats.

He said Pakistan was in contact with Afghanistan for the safe and early recovery of the two diplomatic staffers who were abducted while they were travelling from Jalalabad to Islamabad.
