Conor McGregor applies for Nevada boxing license

It could be a circus.

Miesha Tate, Daniel Cormier and Kenny Florian all weighed in on the current trend of UFC fighters pursuing boxing fights yesterday on the "UFC Tonight" show on Fox Sports 1.

White said they still have a long way to go.

Now, UFC President Dana White is off to negotiate with Team Mayweather on the terms of the bout and will look to get a signed contract to make this fight that many believed had no chances of happening, including himself. I don't knock this fight for happening.

The Irishman has been out of action since knocking out Eddie Alvarez last November at UFC 205 in New York City to become the promotion's lightweight champion.

McGregor released a statement Thursday on the application through TheMacLife.com. Congratulations to all parties involved. Earlier this month, White said the fight had lost its date, when a match between Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin was announced for September 16.

The "Silent Assassin" touts a win, many have failed to accomplish, being the only fighter to defeat the American star and Olympic gold medalist, Claressa Shields.

A showdown between these two men will put a year's worth of trash talk to bed and will likely serve as the definitive answer as to whether or not mixed martial artists can truly survive in a boxing ring.

Mayweather, 40, won world titles in five weight divisions before retiring in 2015.

"I believe so, with the Ali act I believe I can", he said, referring to a federal United States law put in place to stop promoters from restricting boxers from competing. As a draw, he has transcended the floundering sport in a way that few, if any, boxers have in recent years. But retirements don't always stick with boxers.

Aside from the fact that McGregor's pedigree in combat sports should be enough to sanction the contest, it would make economic sense for Nevada to allow the fight to take place.

But, it does seem like more and more people these days understand the differences between MMA and boxing.
