ECO was established in 1985 by Iran, Turkey and Pakistan. Till the filing of the report, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbay Sharipovitch Jeenbekov had reached Islamabad.
13th ECO summit would open with President Rouhani's speech on Wednesday in Islamabad.
Sartaj said immediate attention should be paid to increase intra-regional trade which is far below the potential. Muslim countries can not put their stability in danger "for the interests of foreign countries in the region", he said.
Prime Minister (PM) of Kyrgyz Republic Sooronbay Jeenbekov said that ECO will make rapid progress to reap benefits of mutual economic cooperation under the leadership of Pakistan.
Most member states have confirmed participation in the summit.
Erdogan also highlighted the need for greater cooperation in environmental, agricultural and tourism sectors.

He said initiatives for furtherance of education and scientific linkages, cultural and people to people contacts within the ECO will also be deliberated upon.

"The Nagorno-Karabakh conflict has existed for over 20 years and is not resolved yet, it is necessary to raise this issue at every worldwide arena", Erdogan said.
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani arrived in Islamabad on Tuesday to attend Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) summit on March 01. He also said that the Vision 2025 provided a realistic and achievable roadmap for accelerating economic integration.
He said the holding of 13th ECO Summit in Pakistan is a good omen and it will help implement long terms plans of the Organization. He also said that a meaningful trade in the region can not take place without better cooperation on transport infrastructure among the member states.
