Russian troops have discovered a plethora of mass graves in the city of Aleppo this week, the Russian Defence Ministry announced Monday.
Numerous corpses were found with missing body parts, and most had gunshot wounds to the head, according to a statement by Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Major-General Igor Konashenkov.
In a statement, he said some of the bodies had been mutilated and some had gunshot wounds.
The Syrian Army took the last rebel-held enclaves last week, as rebels and civilians were evacuated.
He said further inquiries would force backers of the Syrian opposition in the West to "recognize their responsibility for the cruelty" of the rebels.

John Shehee was being held in jail on charges for arson, criminal trespassing and theft . Jarred Schoondermarks, 30, and Daniel Speir, 29, were charged with harboring a fugitive.
"Many are missing parts of the body, a lot of them were shot in the head", Konashénkov added.
Konachenkov alleged the rebels, who have been fighting against the Russia-backed Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, had laid out multiple booby traps and mines across the city to capture civilians. Russian military police have entered the city since.
The Russian Air Force helped the Syrian army recapture Aleppo on December 22, months after a major offensive to retake the city was launched in September.
Russian Federation and the Assad regime have been criticized for human rights violations in the siege of Aleppo, including civilian casualties from air and artillery strikes, interference with the delivery of humanitarian aid, and interference with efforts to evacuate civilians from the city.
The AP notes that Christmas was celebrated in Aleppo for the first time in four years this weekend.
